COMBINED TORCH AND BATTLE AXABRAHAM WOLF
Patented December 16, 1884
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I Abraham Wolf, of the city, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvement in Combined Torches and Battle Axes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure1 is a side elevation of my improvements, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same, taken through the line x x, Fig.1. Fig.3 is a plan view of the blanks.
The object of this invention is to provide combined torches and battle axes designed especially for use in torch light processions, and which shall be neat and ornamental in appearance.
The invention consists in a combined torch and battle ax constructed with a torch, a battle ax having sockets and a staff. The battle ax is made of two plates soldered to each other at their front and rear edges, and provided with sockets to receive the staff, and the upper one of which is soldered to the torch, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents an ordinary lamp or torch. B is the battle ax, and C is the staff or handle. The battle ax B is made of two plates cut in the desired shape and soldered to each other at their front and rear edges. The middle parts of the two plates are at such a distance apart as to receive between them the upper part of the staff C. Upon the upper and lower edges of the rear middle parts of the two plates are bent into semi tubular form. The edge of the two lower flanges and the edges of the two upper flanges are soldered or otherwise secured to each other, forming tubular sockets D E, to receive the upper end of the staff C. The upper end of the upper socket, E, soldered to the bottom of the torch A, so that the torch A and battle ax B will be firmly connected and both will be supported by a staff C, inserted in the sockets D E. With this construction the implement can be easily, quickly and cheaply made and will be neat and ornamental in appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I clam as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A combined torch and battle ax consisting, essentially, in a battle ax B, provided on its upper and lower edge with sockets D, and a torch, A, secured in the sockets E, the socket D being adapted to receive the handle C, substantially as set forth.
2. In a combined torch and battle ax, the battle ax B, made, substantially as herein shown and described, of two plates soldered to each other at front and rear edges, are provided with sockets D E, to receive the staff, the upper socket being soldered to the torch as set forth.
