Hot-Air Bath To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. DILTHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Rockville Center, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot-Air Baths, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hot-air baths or apparatus for local therapeutical application of hot air to the body, and relates particularly to a portable hot-air bath, the objects thereof being to provide a device of this character in which the source of heat and fuel is contained therein, and, further, to provide a bath in which the heated air is properly equalized and effectively carried through a self-supporting and refracting conveyer to a suitable mouth adopted to be applied to the body. The invention consists of a hollow body composed of several parts joined in a manner best adapted to maintain the mouthpiece elevated and removed far enough away from the source of heat in order to equalize and distribute effectually the current of heated air. The base consists of a heating-chamber, with a lamp fixed therein and means for supplying air thereto, and a conveying member supported on said heating-chamber for refracting and conveying the heated air to the mouthpiece.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the invention as applied to the shoulder of the patient. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the heating-chamber, preferably in the shape of a truncated cone, and having its upper edge oblique. Attached to the heating-chamber at this oblique edge is the hot-air-conveying member B, which is composed of an outwardly-conveying inner portion adapted to reflect and concentrate the hot air before passing through the outer end of the cylindrical portion thereof. Fitting on the latter said portion is the mouthpiece C, flaring outwardly and having an open-mesh asbestos cloth D for reducing the intensity of the heat.

The lamp L is inclosed in the heating-chamber and manipulated through the opening a, and air to be heated and to support the flame is supplied through the perforations a1, arranged above the lamp in the side of said chamber.

The device being portable, b represents a suitable bail or handpiece, and in order to reflect the hot air and to prevent the said handpiece from becoming hot the upper part of the heating-chamber and the lower portion of the conveying member are provided with a lining of non-conductive material R.

The air drawn into the heating-chamber and heated by the flame, and then it rises to the converging portion of the conveying member, where it is reflected and concentrated before passing through the outer tubular end thereby, and then into the mouthpiece to the afflicted part of the patient.

The device as thus described having the source of heat within renders it portable and by the particular construction produces a well-equalized current of hot air and maintains the mouthpiece sufficiently from the body, thus allowing it to be adjusted to the patient in a variety of ways.

In a portable hot-air bath, a heating-chamber, having an oblique upper edge, a self-supporting conveying member deflected from said oblique edge, said member having an inner converging portion and an outer cylindrical portion, a mouthpiece fitted on said latter portion, said mouthpiece being provided with non-conductive material at its outer edge, a lamp contained in said heating chamber, air-supplying means, and means for carrying said bath, substantially as set forth.
